Cathcart -- One of the Best Books on Leadership I've Ever Read : Accountability may not be at the top of every leader's list when it comes to an attribute they need to develop, but in this book, Michael does an excellent job of redefining accountability and showing why it's crucial to the success of any organization. One of the most important points he makes in this book is the need to move from a people-centered approached to problem solving to a systems-centered approach. Rather than blame the person closest to the problem, as we often do, Michael encourages us to step back and figure out how to fix the system so that making a mistake is difficult to do. That's just one of many insightful teachings in this book, which is bound to transform how you think about leadership and how to elevate your organization's performance. I liked the way Michael describes how important it is in a leadership role to continue to educate and help out those reporting to you by prompting them to solve the problem, or look for ways to find answers to their problems. As someone who oversees a team with a relatively large workload, it taught me to not only help my team take charge of their own problems, but I’m teaching them critical thinking skills with it.
